Parkstone Yacht club women in sailing talk
On February 28th 6.30-8pm at Parkstone Yacht Club I am giving a talk on Women in Sailing. It follows on as part of a series of presentations I have been doing on the topic, the first being at the end of last year at London Corinthian Yacht Club.
The intention behind them is to increase awareness of gender stereotypes we can all make and inequalities that are very much still present in sailing. I've experienced my fair share of misogyny throughout my sailing career (some conscious and blatant, others more subtle and indirect) but they have all, in the past, fed into my unconscious and created self doubt and contributed to a lack of confidence.
We’re living in the most exciting time to be a female athlete. Things are changing and we're seeing more female sailors than ever rightfully competing at the very top of our sport across all kinds of disciplines. However, we still have a long way to go. I hope by speaking up on the topic, challenging how we can improve the sailing environment for women and discussing changes that need to be made we’ll reach gender equality in a sport which everyone should have equal opportunity to thrive in.
The talk is completely free and you don’t need to be a member of Parkstone Yacht Club to attend. I mean… why wouldn't you there ;)!!!
